The short answer: book before the leaves are finished falling

Why one date does not fit every property
A newer subdivision with a handful of smaller trees may be ready much earlier than a mature Kingsway or Lorne Park property surrounded by maples and oaks. Heavy-canopy lots often benefit from a later cleanup or more than one pass so wet leaves are not left matting the turf for weeks.
A proper cleanup goes beyond leaf removal
Leaves are the obvious part, but the finished result depends on everything around them: debris trapped in hedges and beds, spent annuals, appropriate perennial cutbacks, a final lawn cut, crisp hard-surface cleanup and full haul-away. Good fall work should make the entire property feel closed for the season.
What should be cut back?
Not every perennial should automatically be cut to the ground. Some plants benefit from being left standing for winter structure, habitat or crown protection, while others are better cleaned up after frost. The final mow matters
Going into winter with extremely long grass can encourage matting, while scalping the lawn is equally unhelpful. A normal final cut—adjusted for growth and conditions—leaves the turf tidy without stressing it before winter.
